Frequently Asked

Questions

Q. WHO WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CAMPAIGN?

A. All members of the Whitefield community will be asked to consider a financial gift to the campaign.

Q. ARE GIFTS TO THE CAMPAIGN TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

A.  Yes. Gifts to the campaign are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law. The application of such laws varies with individual financial circumstances. Individuals with specific questions regarding tax deductibility should contact their attorney or tax professional. Whitefield’s tax identification number is 58-1224983

Q. I ALREADY SUPPORT WHITEFIELD WITH AN ANNUAL GIFT. WHY SHOULD I MAKE A CAMPAIGN GIFT, TOO?

A. Annual donations go directly into the current year’s operating funds to provide annual enhancements to the educational experience for Whitefield students. Gifts to the campaign provide significant capital necessary for the construction of campus infrastructure projects. Though some support for such projects is provided by outside sources and foundations (10-15%), the bulk of the capital needed for buildings in independent schools comes primarily from the families who have first-hand experience and benefit directly from the mission of the school.

Q. WHY EMPHASIZE PLEDGES?

A. The campaign emphasizes pledging because it allows individuals and families the opportunity to consider larger commitments than they might be able to consider through a one‐time gift. Experience shows that donors who pledge can consider gifts four to five times larger than those who make one‐time gifts. This is important in a campaign of this magnitude. Pledges to the Called Up Campaign can be paid over five years, in whatever schedule works best for your situation. We ask that all pledges be paid in full by June 30, 2028.

Q. CAN I DESIGNATE MY GIFT TO A SPECIFIC CAMPAIGN PROJECT?

A. We invite donors to make undesignated gifts in support of the whole campaign, which provides Whitefield leadership with the greatest flexibility in implementing priority and time‐sensitive projects. We encourage you to donate to the campaign vision rather than selected projects.

Q. WHY IS EACH DONOR ASKED TO COMPLETE A PLEDGE FORM?

A. A donor is asked to complete a pledge form so that the gift may be accurately recorded and acknowledged by Whitefield’s Development team. Donors are also asked to sign a pledge form indicating that they have agreed to the terms of the gift indicated on the form. Appropriate documentation is also needed for our annual audit.

Q. IS AN INITIAL PAYMENT FOR A PLEDGE REQUIRED?

A. The campaign does not require an initial payment to begin a pledge. While many donors prefer to begin their pledges immediately, some may elect to delay the payment start date.

Q. HOW WILL INDIVIDUAL PLEDGE COMMITMENTS BE COLLECTED?

A. Whitefield's development team will collect individual pledge commitments, initial payments, and all subsequent donations. Pledge reminders will be sent annually, typically in late November or early December.

Q. CAN GIFTS OF STOCKS BE MADE TO THE CAMPAIGN?

A. Yes. If a donor offers a gift of stock, please inform Whitefield’s Development team, and a staff member will follow up. Gifts of stocks can have two main financial benefits: a charitable deduction for the present fair market value and no capital gains tax on the appreciation. Use the account information below to complete a stock transfer for the benefit of Whitefield Academy.

Q. HOW CAN I GIVE TO THE CAMPAIGN?

Q. HOW WILL DONORS BE RECOGNIZED?

A. Donors will be recognized in a printed annual report. Donor names will be listed alphabetically without amounts, and all donors have the option to be listed as anonymous if they choose. There are limited naming opportunities for gifts of $250,000 or more.

Q. ARE THERE NAMING OPPORTUNITIES?

A. There are limited naming opportunities for gifts of $250,000 or more.

Q. WHY IS WHITEFIELD LAUNCHING A MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR CAMPAIGN?

A. We are embarking on our largest campaign to date in recognition of the need to support the student community with better resources, instruction, and facilities. Simply put, we need more space to excel in our Christ-centered mission. We also need more classrooms equipped with innovative technologies, safer playing fields, and the ability to offer every student the full Whitefield experience. Enhanced academic and athletic spaces will support the high standard of education we value at Whitefield.

Q. HOW DID WHITEFIELD IDENTIFY CAMPAIGN PRIORITIES, AND WHAT PROJECTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE $39.2M GOAL?

A. The Whitefield leadership team and the Board of Trustees extensively reviewed several capital priorities and considered input from a Planning Study to help inform their choices. We have endorsed a campaign plan and strategy that leverage our existing campus buildings while comprehensively addressing Whitefield’s changing needs through the construction of the Learning Commons and improvements to the current baseball and softball fields (athletic projects have been completed).

Q. WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR PROJECT COMPLETION?

A. Whitefield has completed most of the $2M upgrades to the baseball and softball facilities, including a new drainage system, lights, dugout and pressbox upgrades, and field accessibility for spectators. Whitefield will break ground for the Learning Commons building only when the full $39.2M has been received in commitments. Whitefield is working towards reaching this goal by December 31, 2024, in order to make key decisions in January 2025. This will allow for a March/April 2025 date for groundbreaking. Construction is estimated to take 18 months. We will target August 2026 for the opening of the Learning Commons.

Q. HOW WILL THIS CAMPAIGN AFFECT THE WHITEFIELD FUND?

A. Annual giving is expected to remain robust in order to provide an outstanding Whitefield experience for our students and families. Alumni, current and past parents, grandparents, and friends of Whitefield will be asked to give above and beyond their regular giving throughout the campaign. The campaign is not intended to deter community members from their regular annual giving. Contributions to this campaign should be considered donations made in addition to maintaining or even increasing one’s current annual support.
